The night of the flying cards

Updated: Mar 30, 2023

Victor had been looking forward to this night for weeks. He had just finished his new condo remodel and decided to treat himself to a night out on the town. He thought, it would be a great inauguration of the new condo if we could party with girls, but he needed a wingman so he called up Hernan, an Argentinian who was always up for a good time.

Hernan and Victor worked together at a software company, they were both single and loved to party. Victor had a beautiful green over tan Ferrari 612 Scaglietti, Hernan loved the car and asked Victor to pick him up to arrive in style and hit the clubs in South Beach.

Unfortunately, the night wasn't going as planned. After several drinks and several clubs, despite their best efforts, the girls just weren't interested in them. Victor didn't like to brag or talk about his Ferrari, but he was tempted to use it to pick up girls, but mentally he said no, the girls have to like me for me, not for my car. A few hours later, Victor was starting to feel down, it was almost 3 am, they were hungry and Hernan wanted to call in the night.

They were getting very hungry and Hernan wanted to eat at home in Aventura, Victor on the other hand, could only think of having Venezuelan arepas so he tried to convince Hernan to come with him to El Doral, a neighborhood on the other side of town known for its amazing arepas. But Hernan just wanted to go home, it was a Wednesday and they had to work the next day.

Determined to get his arepas, Victor told Hernan that he was driving him home and then he was going to get the Arepas. Hernan agreed, Victor made an illegal U-turn on 17th street, towards I-195, Hernan feel asleep and at that moment Victor change course and started heading towards El Doral.

It was 3 am and the roads were deserted, so Victor pushed the Ferrari to its limits. He felt like a race car driver, weaving in and out of traffic and enjoying the feeling of the wind in his hair.

Hernan was still asleep in the passenger seat, exhausted from the night's festivities. But Victor was wide awake, thanks to the adrenaline pumping through his veins.

Suddenly, he saw a delivery truck on the side of the road, its cargo, lots of boxes, where scattered all over the place. Victor slammed on the brakes, but it was too late. The Ferrari hydroplaned and skidded off the road, hitting some of the boxes and crashing into a wall.

Miraculously, both Victor and Hernan were unharmed. The Ferrari had protected them well, the car had done its job and saved them. When they opened their eyes they couldn't believe what was happening! the delivery truck was full of playing cards, and playing cards were flying everywhere. It was like a scene out of a movie, with cards raining down on them from the sky.

The police arrived on the scene and took down all the necessary information. Victor was devastated to see his beloved Ferrari in such a state, but he was grateful that it had saved his life.

The next day at work, Hernan showed up with a massive headache and told the story of their wild night to everyone who would listen. When Victor arrived, he was met with a mix of awe and sympathy over the loss of his beloved Ferrari. But he couldn't help but smile, knowing that the car had saved their lives.

From that day on, Victor was known as the man who crashed his Ferrari but lived to tell the tale. And while it would take some time to get behind the wheel of a Ferrari again, he would always remember that fateful night when his car protected him and his friend, and the strange rain of playing cards that followed.
